    Good morning, everybody…

There’s spaghetti and bacon sauce at “Heart,” today.

It’s “National Dessert Day,” today. (I did think this was a few days ago, I must have mis-read something.) So here is my all time farvourite pie from Mom. (It’s Mom’s directions, so read it all before putting it together. Love counts more than organization. :-) )

    Lemon Meringue Pie (From Mom)

    1 cup sugar
    5 to 6 tablespoons cornstarch
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    2 cups hot water

Mix dry ingredients, gradually stir in hot water till smooth.
Cook in double boiler stirring till thickened, then cover and cool 10 minutes longer.
    Add 3 beaten egg yolks.
First blend in about 1/2 cup of the hot mixture, then add to the mixture gradually, blending in well.
    Remove from heat.
    Then add: 3 tablespoons butter
    1/3 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons grated lemon rind (grate lemon before cutting)

    Blend in carefully and quickly.
Cool covered with lid, so that skin does not form on top.
    Put in baked pie shell.
    Cover with meringue.
Bake at 300 deg. For 15 to 20 minutes, watching so it does not burn.

    For baked pie shell

To prevent pie shell bubbling up, prick pie shell with fork before baking.

    Meringue

Beat three egg whites, gradually add 1/2 teaspoon cream tartar, some sugar, a dash of salt, and a few drops lemon flavouring., if you have it.
When the meringue forms soft peaks and holds its shape, spread on top of pie.
Don’t over beat until too dry.
Swirl here and there to make peaks, when spreading on pie.

On this day in 1926, “Winnie the Pooh” was first published. “Winnie” actually stands for Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the bear who was the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh came from.

The Toronto group “Edward Bear” also took their name from the book. The opening line of “Winnie the Pooh” is “Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin.” (I guess A. A. Milne was, himself, making a play on “Teddy’s bear,” either ignoring or forgetting the fact that Teddy was a diminutive of Theodore and not Edward, in that case. )

    Anyway, here is Edward Bear.

    @ Dry (from yesterday)

I was exercising my tendency towards pedantry. Dan Thompson having the judge yell out “Mordor! Mordor in the court!” makes about as much sense, to me, as if he’d had him yelling out “France! France in the court!”

I realize the play on words and sounds, but I just didn’t find it funny.

I’ve read “The Lord Of The RIngs” three times. That’s why I didn’t go to any of the movies. The trailers alone put me off.

I did go to see the first part of “The Hobbit,” though, if the other 2 portions never get funded that’s okay with me. Absolutely terrible, is my review.

    Good morning all!

We get a day off today for Columbus Day which is nice because I never had Columbus day off in Michigan.

    Sports day sounds like fun.

JFri, they were four outs away from taking them both from the Red Sux in Fenway, but blew the game last night. Now it gets interesting though.

    @Alexikakos

I am going to check out that spaghetti and bacon sauce recipe. I wonder if it is like the one my Great Aunt used to make?

There is, or at least there was, a lovely little store in Niagara on the Lake called the Silly Old Bear, all about Winnie the Pooh and all the characters. Classic Pooh to the Disney version. This lady sold everything you could imagine, clothes, dishes, jewelry, books, etc. all related to Pooh. I loved that store!
