GT is having problem with continuity.
The November 19 strip clearly shows Alex working as a waitress in a full service restaurant, not as a barista in Starbucks. At least, I have never seen a Starbucks like that.

It’s possible she quit the waitressing job and got the barista job for the benefits.

Alex may need to hire an illegal to take her place.

My guess is that someone with a PHD from MIT would have no problem finding a job. If she had a degree in 16th century art yes, but a PHD from MIT?

The more technical your degree, the more they usually want a year’s experience to go with it. That’s why an internship is also important.

A part time job offers THOSE benefits? What are you smokin’, GT, and why aren’t you sharing?

For starters, many cab drivers in Cuba are PhDs – goes to show that systems may be more similar than they appear…

Must be Trudeau doesn’t have the guts to show the real PhDs that can’t find work. Namely liberal arts PhDs. Got a friend with one in Archaeology, if you can’t teach it or get a dig you don’t work.

B / B+. Improving, and did get someone to bite, though @wdgnas clearly recognises you for the troll that you are. Still doesn’t sound as if it’s a sincere comment; if you can just fake that, you’re there.

Doesn’t really tie up. When she hired Mia she said she had an “evening wait job”, not that she worked as a barista, and all the strips this week have been consistent with her working evenings only. I think GBT wants to change horses, for some reason.

The idea that Americans have to get a job in order to have medical cover is still a complete mind-blower for Brits (and most other citizens of developed countries). The only one of those benefits which aren’t automatic over here, either through the state or, in the case of salary-related pension to which the employer contributes, through (new) legislation, is the stock options.
