Mike didn’t read last Sunday’s strip or he would know that Sorkh Razil is all for free enterprise and raw capitalism.

And what do you do Lewreader, when the insurance companies refuse to pay legitimate claims if there is no strong government regulation to force them to pay?
The Republicans and too many Democrats, are in office only because of anti-strong-government $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. They want weak government (their deceptive code term is “small government”). Reason: so they can do whatever they want to rip off “the little guy” who signed a deceptive contract written under laws which are written by the insurance industry. They are handed in bill form to Congress on a golden platter like the head of John the Baptist.
The system has become corrupt and only strong, honest, government regulation can clean it up. Don’t hold your breath, Lewreader.

Only in his summer daydream, LWP. Once some jackass (Sorkh) has crashed it, the lovely Kim appears.

Batten down the hatches, LWP. Weather here is hot, even at night, which is highly unusual for the Inland Empire.

I went to college in the Inland Empire (3 years). Recently I lived in Loma Linda (2 years) and now in San Bernardino (8 years). That makes 13 years in the Inland Empire. Today’s temperature reached 107 degrees F. I waited till 9:30 pm, as late as could, before it was cool enough to begin my walk. Since my outdoor thermometer recently stopped working, I don’t have a measurement. But I would guess 90 degrees F. I believe that is “highly unusual”. You may have a different opinion.

I don’t think so. It’s a typical backward curving Arabic sword.

I live in the Insurance Capital of the World. I may have a slanted view of the industry. If you live in the dung manufacturing center, you may have different views. I have taken on the industry twice, both times walking away with the legal maximum. Both times without legal representation.
How? I have used the same agent for over 40 years. Of course if you buy the cheapest you can find over the Internet or TV, you might have a problem.
Just like the market, insurance demands loyalty. trust, and doing your homework. The cheapest is not always the best. When a man loses his house because he bought minimum liability on his teenager’s car, I am not crying tears when the moving truck arrives. The same could be said for health insurance.
Although I believe in high deductables, if you only insure your biggest investment for 60%, am I supposed to feel sorry for you? And don’t even start about the idiots living in a tidal plain who save money without flood insurance.
Bankers and Jews got a bad name in the Middle Ages when they charged usuary rates to crusaders. Well? Are they ever coming back? Are they coming back victorious and rich? Little bit of a risk. Insurance is just banking. Taking risks involve hight profit margins.
Irene is going to cost the Industry. They budgeted it 5 years ago. The Federal government started 5 days ago. Private corporations might have alittle more foresight thanan inexperianced elected body. They sure employ more knowledgable people. The Insurance Industry protects both policyholders and shareholders. Politician protects poll standings.

    Strong, Honest, Government regulation?

Man – I need some of those drugs…

Morally strong, honest, hardworking, patriotic people do exist in the world. They are not created and fueled by drugs. They are created and fueled from the womb up by morally strong, honest, hardworking, patriotic parents, church environments, teachers, pastors, sports coaches, teammates, playmates and friends, etc. This is, as President Kennedy finally recognized about the treatment of blacks in this beloved country, “a moral issue” (“issha” I remember he pronounced it in that delightful Irish accent he had).
When they reach adulthood, these are the folk to man the strong government regulations needed to fight the rampant corruption. There is no “structural” solution to corruption; there is only a “people” solution.
“Cry the beloved country” CAN do it. We did it in the freeing of the slaves. We did it in WWII. We did it in driving the British redcoats out. We did in in Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” drive to give equal opportunity to all, regardless of skin color, in the land that ranges "from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam, GOD BLESS AMERICA!
