    I’d actually rather watch what Horace was watching than the local news, with its gibbering idiots giving us half-assed “stories” with a stupid grin.
    There’s a time for entertainment, and a time for information. Local news shows give us neither.

    @Sherlock Watson

    Not true here. At least I can see who’s fingers were caught in the cookie jar and watch them as they are sentenced to jail. Not always, but we’re beating the Attorney General on national prosecutions.

    Unfortunately, politicians are more interested in money than in sound economics, which is a horse of another color.

    There might have been a time when politicians were at least interested in ‘quick fixes’. Now they’re only interested in fixing blame….

    The problem isn’t just the politicians.
    The people with BIG money don’t want sound economic policy, they just want more money.
    Sure, the people with little money also want more, but there’s a big difference between wanting enough to support a family
    and having to choose between your vacation homes in Honolulu and Cozumel for your Superbowl Party.

    re: nebulous
    Unfortunately true today.
    When I was a kid, most rich people got that way by their own work. They were a stabilizing influence in the country. Then a lot of flakes inherited it, becoming dominant in the early 1990s. The handshake deal of 25 years ago is just about gone. now it’s do a 10,000 page contract and try to find ways to mess with it.
    A major difference in the 1980s vs the 1990s to now is that the superrich invested and built things, making for new things, new industries, new types of business. Starting in the 1990s, it became derivatives and other gambling that only took money from one hand to the other. The current crisis took more than 20 years to create.

    It is a very common human problem. People love money and forget that it represents labor done to improve the value of raw materials, places or things. It is a way to exchange labor for labor, wealth for wealth, to the benefit of all, at least until somebody figures out how to get their money for nothing, and their chicks for free, or promise money for nothing and chicks for free if you elect them to a position where they can get their own money for nothing and their waitress sandwiches for free.
