It’s the only way your parents can keep their sanity.

We simply locked our kids in their room, because we were afraid to let them outside. But now that they are in their 30s, we wish they would start paying rent.

Parents exist solely to get up a kid’s nose and
    generally thwart him.

It would have been funnier if Watterson had done a cameo. But it’s still great.

Times have changed; forty years ago in the Midwestern town where I grew up, a neighbour would lock her grandkids out of the house on summer mornings. If they wanted to use the bathroom or whatever, they had to knock and be let in. She didn’t have air conditioning, it was just to keep them from running in and out all day.

Texas in the sixties, out the door in the morning back in that evening! Out the bedroom window if necessary. Bathroom outside. Who wanted inside. Must be the reason I was Boy Scout and spent 20+ years in the Army (outside).

“Go outside and play and take your three needy cats with you” is what I’ll be telling my husband later… Enjoy it before “you know what happens”.

Im gratefut that I grew up in a time when you could just go outside and “do stuff” with other kids with no adults hovering about “organizing” things
