My younger dog has a mixed heritage – Labrador (hunter / retriever), Border Collie (herder) and Whippet (runner / hunter).

She loves chasing rabbits (it’s the runner / hunter) … Trouble is the Border Collie instincts kick in and all she does is herd the rabbits into their holes – can’t catch one for love nor money.

The snow can tell a story if we just look and perceive it.

    Love ya, Hobbes!

But it was so cold here during and after the snowstorm last week that there were no tracks at all in the snow for several days. Even the critters didn’t want to venture out.

Of course not! Some of them probably haven’t even bathed recently, and anyway Hobbes is a pescatarian.

With that mix of breeds, you must throw the tennis ball a LOT.

Yeah, well we DO but not for the younger dog …

Our older dog is an all-singing, card-carrying, dyed-in-the-wool Black Labrador – absolutely obsessed (!!) with retrieving.

We throw the ball for the older dog to retrieve. The younger dog chases, “rounds up” and herds and then pursues the older dog all the way back for more.

It’s OK – they both get their exercise.
