Reason #2 to be a teacher: don’t have to work summers. Reason #1: can’t get a real job.

I’m a retired cop. Once in a while someone I cited
or arrested would spot me ine the supermarket aisle and recognize me. Hard to make small talk and even harder to figure out how to get to your car anonymously!

So, Barry, how many years of teaching did you put in that qualifies you to say it’s not a real job?

Teachers and the real world don’t mix. I always viewed them as part of the school furniture.

Most of them were wooden any way.

All my teachers used to address me by my surname. It had a lasting effect on me. It’s just one step up from being referred to as a number.

Of course they don’t sleep in coffins – they hang upside down from the light fittings, wrapped in their leathery wings . . .
