Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

That’s weird: while Calvin was in the period where “something for nothing” was developing in the business world and our governments (1993 was when that trend began in earnest), most of us were still in the work hard mode. Professions were still professions. It took almost 20 years to eliminate the professionalism that used to be present in the sciences, for example. Used to be test and prove. Today, it’s just assume and insist.
.
A perfect example is the Pika. Twenty years ago, a group of biologists would do a massive survey of the 11 states where it’s known to exist. They would count them, then do it again in 3 or 5 years. And probably repeat it at least once, thus giving three data sets.
Today, it’s just assume they are declining, despite not actually having any numbers to support it.
.
It might be reasonable if the track record had some successes. Every arbitrary claim that was actually tested for in the area of northern california where I used to work, turned out to be wrong.

I doubt that’s the real reason Susie won’t give him the answers — certainly not the only reason.
