The badges of being a kid…remnants of fall leaves clinging to your hair, earth and mud under your fingernails, tiny scratches and pricks from branches and close encounters with the neighbors hedges, a mosquito bite red and puffed from scratching and scraped kneecaps smudged in grass and dirt.

My knees aren’t physically green, but my soul has engaged the world and absorbed some of its color.
