Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

Maybe Calvin has a fear of adopting his Dad’s way of thinking someday.
Vacation can be a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it. We’ve all got to go sometime.
This will be my final posting before leaving on “vacation” tomorrow (assuming that I don’t have second thoughts after reading today’s strip). I expect to return after Easter as a part-time contributor, because I will be taking on an additional pursuit at that time. But I want to answer some of your questions before I go:
Yesterday, Thirdguy in Vermont correctly guessed that I am male, before he incorrectly guessed that I am female. I was really hoping he would change his mind one more time….
As I’ve said in the past, Mythreesons in Oklahoma incorrectly guessed that I’m Bill Watterson (more than once, if my memory serves me…). Please don’t tell her that I’m taking a sabbatical just like Bill Watterson did. I promise not to post reruns of my comments while I’m away. :>)
Yesterday, Thirdguy, still in Vermont as far as I know, incorrectly guessed that I am a man of the cloth, but at least this provided inspiration for some “Hobbes” jokes. Nevertheless, I do have an important calling, as all of us do.
Yesterday, cdward, located who-knows-where, implied that I might be a better person than him, but I definitely have to disagree. In reality, we all fall so far short of the standard of perfection, that most of our attempts to compare ourselves to others seem….. well……. what’s the right word in the context of Calvin and Hobbes……… laughable?
Thanks for all of the humor, constructive comments, encouragement, and stimulating discussions over the past four months. You really are a unique group of people who are both insightful and a lot of fun.
I hope that this spring will be a time of renewal, new life, and discovery for all of us (unless you live in Australia and you have to wait 6 months). It’s also a very good time to get out and cultivate new relationships, as well as improve existing ones – of the non-cyberspace kind. When talking with your friends, try hard to avoid the temptation to multiplex by secretly checking Calvin and Hobbes – so that you don’t accidentally laugh at the wrong times.
Have a great spring everyone, find ways to spark your imagination and creativity (within legal limits), seek to focus on the things that are truly important in life, and never lose your sense of humor.
Finally one more question: Am I, or am I not, the real Hobbes? Well……… My answer is that if you enjoy asking the question, then I leave that to your imagination.

No way I’d take that kid on a luxury cruise. Chances are the whole family would be “put ashore” on some small, unoccupied island.

Hobbs, thank you for your “farewell” letter to all of us who have grown to consider you as a friend and fellow comics lover.
You always were interesting and fun. I will miss your humor and your insight.
Besides that, you were very helpful and willing to share your computer knowledge with those of us who are just kind of stumbling along as we go. Thank you.
As to whether you are the “real” Hobbs, well either way, at the very least you do have his spirit and wit.
We will look for you and hope to see you back in the fold soon.

Dad is rationalizing those miserable “vacations” they always build character on…
“Hobbes” sounds like a smart enlightened individual. I knew a gentleman like that, he was in academia and everyone who knew him said he was a class act.

When Hobbes first began posting, I thought he was Bill Watterson, but it soon came to me that Watterson needs few words to get his point across, and would not be likely to expound as Hobbes does. Nonetheless, I have enjoyed reading Hobbes philosophical essays, and the interesting comments they often elicit. I don’t often post, but I enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts and witticisms. Thanks for being here. Have a good sabbatical, Hobbes. You’ll be missed.

Vacations are like most things we wish for: having isn’t nearly so pleasant as wanting; and the experience seldom lives up to its expectations.. harrietbe, I think we all thought that until today. The mystery is solved, or is it?
