Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

Tobacco companies have been trying to come up with more creative ways to market their products to kids, and parents have come up with creative ways like this to get them to say no.

Although smoking is down in this country, tobacco’s holding its own. Plenty of young people in this country are stupid enough to take up the habit, and they’ve also managed to be very effective in their marketing overseas. But young’uns and gullible foreigners aren’t the only ones who fall prey to Madison Avenue - most U.S. adults give in to the siren song of fast food, beef and dairy (“Beef, it’s what’s for dinner.” “Got milk?”), while industrial “farmers” pack animals so closely together that they can’t move, pump the animals full of chemicals and drugs to get them to grow more quickly and stay alive until slaughter, and dump the resultant waste wherever they can get away with it. If you care about animal welfare, the environment, rural economies, public health, or your own health, know where your food comes from and how it was grown or raised.

Bad news, Calvin: by 18 you may know better, but that won’t make addiction any easier to avoid. Just because we know something is bad doesn’t mean we don’t still want it.
