Living in an enchanted forest with surrealistic landscapes, the engaging characters of Broom Hilda happily have no connection with reality. Other comic characters are extensions or distortions of reality, but Broom Hilda deals in pure fantasy, making the strip bewitchingly unique. Here in the forest, the inhabitants maintain a standard of madness where total irrelevance is the only relevancy. The strip is simply a loony-bin where what’s said and done often makes no sense whatsoever, much to the joy of its millions of fans.

That’s mighty loud…
Good morning, LB. No, no dust storms here.

She should be banned from theaters.
MARG! According to last night’s network news, Phoenix
got another dust storm. You’re lucky you haven’t had
any so far.

Whoosh! Knocked off her feet for the third day in a row; it’s about time Broomie wises up and takes defensive measures against this NOISY kid! —Not entirely off-topic, we had wind gusts up to 64 mph this morning as thunderstorms roared through Chicagoland….

Flossie should move into some ghetto neighborhood where her big mouth can drown out the gunshots.

Her voice would give the local idiom “blown away” a whole new meaning…

Yep, it’s Theme Week here in the Enchanted Forest. I kinda hope you’re right; this kid needs some serious taking down.

Aye but the REAL scary part is that Flossie will grow up to be a wife with a husband who might not have had a hearing problem but soon will.

Flossie would give anyone a hearing problem…

I doubt anyone could hear her in a theater. I quit going some years ago when even musicians plugs wouldn’t dampen the tarmac volume to a level that didn’t hurt the ears.

Nobody thinks this might possibly be in bad taste this week?

if you think so, it’s not intentional. These are written weeks in advance.

There are so many tragedies in the world, any subject could be considered sensitive…
…if one tries hard enough.

True, last Sunday’s “Sally Forth” her husband wanted to distract her from the problems of her sister’s upcoming wedding with 2am tickets For “The Dark Knight Rises” While this is online, maybe some newspapers didn’t run this.

Although I realize that newspaper deadlines for this strip were probably well before the Aurora tragedy, I have seen other comics scrubbed at the last minute when sensitivities were involved.
So, I’ll just say, “Too soon, Broom Hilda.”
