@torn newspaper
To be fair, Nate and Artur are both the same height also when they are both sitting on the same step.
.
Wait… That means Nate is the same height whether he’s standing or sitting!
.
Ok, let’s face it: the boy is deformed!
.
(To be fair, that’s how Lincoln draws all his child characters: with disproportionate short legs and large heads. That’s just his style and I’m sure most of us like it.)

and if this comic were in this morning’s edition of my local paper, then that last panel would require a 100x power microscope to read the word balloons

The dog is called "Barfy’ because that is how Bil Keane’s children spoke their dog’s name when they were little children. The newspaper comics get smaller and smaller because A) that leaves more space in the rest of the paper for advertising which B) means more profit for the publishers. There is also C) that comic strips attract readers to the newspaper, therefore D) the less space each strip takes on the page, the more strips can be printed, meaning E) hypothetically, more people will read the newspaper.
Lastly, here is a story about Bil Keane. Let me set the scene for you. The youngest child, PJ, was not in the strip at first. Bil Keane after a while thought maybe there should be another child in Family Circus. So, since he worked at home, he went out to discuss the matter with his wife, Thel. She was out in the garden. He walks up to her and asks “How do you feel about another child in the family?” She replied “Fine by me, but let’s wait till I’ve finished the weeding.” Now, tell me; will you ever again be able to read Family Circle without thinking of that?
