Good morning, everybody… It’s “National Caramel Custard Day,” today. From: Creative Cooking DessertsPublished by Ottenheimer Publishers, Inc. 1992Compiled and edited by: Marian Hoffman.Designed by: Ruth Ann ThompsonCaramel Custard (Serves 4 to 6) Caramel1 1/2 cups sugar1/2 cup water Custard2 cups milk1/2 cup sugar2 teaspoons vanilla extract (real)3 whole eggs2 egg yolks 1.To make caramel, place sugar in saucepan.Add water and stir with wooden spoon. Bring to a goil without stirring. Watch carefully; the moment the syrup turns light brown, remove from heat.2.Place saucepan in larger pan containing cold water to stop the cooking.Pour caramel into 1-quart (U.S.quart / 946 ml), straight-sided mold or dessert dish; tilt dish in circular motion so that the bottom and sides are coated with caramel.3.To clean saucepan, fill it with cold water and cook for 7 to 8 minutes.Pour out water and rinse well.4.Preheat oven to 350 degrees.5.Fill a small roasting pan with 1 1/2 cups hot water and place on center rack of oven.6.To make custard, pour milk into saucepan. Add sugar and vanilla; stir and bring to a boil.7.Place eggs and egg yolks in mixing bowl; beat well.Add hot milk mixture gradually, stirring constantly with whisk.Pour custard into caramel-lined mold or bowl; bake for 40 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.8.Refrigerate cooled custard until well chilled. To serve, the custard mold should be dipped into hot water for a few seconds and turned upside down on a dessert platter. On this day in 1963, on a lighter note, “Mr. Ed” premiered on CBS television. (Some sources say it went on air 2 days earlier)

Mr. Ed was played by a palomino horse whose real name was Bamboo Harvester. (Sadly, there are no descendants of Mr. Ed; he was gelded. His stable mate, and stunt double, Pumpkin, went on to star in “Green Acres.”

Mr. Ed’s voice was supplied by a total of 3 people, Allan “Rocky” Lane, general speaking voice (not credited throughout the series), Sheldon Allman, singing all but one line of the theme song, and Jay Livingston, who composed the theme song and sang “I am Mr. Ed.”

In researching more than just the air date, I was surprised to discover that “Mr. Ed” was based on a series of short stories by Walter R. Brooks, the first being “The Talking Horse,” published on September, 18, 1937. Further surprising me; Brooks also wrote the “Freddy the Pig” series of books which was a childhood favourite of both myself and my sister. If either series is still around (I haven’t looked.) I think both would be well worth purchasing for any kid who can read by him, or her, self. ”Mr. Ed” theme song.53 Seconds

I don’t get today’s strip. It is sort of funny, but I think I’m missing something. Oh well. Another sunny day here. Have a nice day everyone.

Wake up, sleepy heads! Where’s MARG today? That is fascinating to read about MR ED and his double. It is a pity he was gelded though. We could use more talking Mr. Ed horses.

Looks like we just crossed paths DRY. How is your day so far?We have Wi Fi at work now, so I am eating lunch before I go out again. I may have a nap before I go out, to rest my back. One thing we therapists have lots of is couches, lol. I’ll just find an empty room.

DRY, what’s the fun of going to work if you can’t goof off once in a while? As long as my clients don’t catch me. Might do them some good to see a therapist reading the comics though. :-D

Gosh, is it only 9:00 pm? It feels like midnight. I have had an exhausting day, but my counselling sessions this morning went really well. It makes me happy to make a difference in someone’s life. I hope I can keep it up.

Good for you GF! You care about your patients! That is wonderful!

And I know how you feel about the time! I have been tired all day long, and I know I slept well! Don’t know what is up with that! And with the sun setting earlier, it seems later than it is! But, I am trying to keep on a sleep schedule, so I am staying up until 10:30 or 11.
