From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

It’s certainly more interesting than a bunch of clowns trying to win a quadrennial popularity contest.

Actually I think Shemp is the most qualified.

@NebulousRikulau & @doublepaw, both: True that! In another vein, though: Is Arlo channeling the spirit of Carl Sagan? … billions & billions…

Well, we now have eight planets to our own star, Sol.
There are at least five dwarf planets in our own solar system (Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and Eris, which is larger than Pluto).
There are at least four other possible dwarf planets (Orcus, Quaoar, 2007 OR10 and Sedna), with even others as well!
Out of those 9 dwarfs, 5 have at least one moon. Haumea has 2 and Pluto has 4.

And they just upped the number of stars thought to be in the universe. The current number is anywhere between 300 sextillion (10 to the 23rd power) and 1 septillion (10 to the 24th power). Multiply that by the number of planets to each solar system – and the number of planets should be WELL over 1 septillion – I doubt we are the only “intelligent” life in this vast universe.

There have been strong rumors, shall we say, that intelligent life has already visited us. What would be your first question?

Intelligent life has visited us, and marked their guide maps, “Avoid.”

To quote Calvin (Calvin & Hobbes): “The best evidence that there is other intelligent life out there, is that none of it has tried to reach us!”

@AshburnStadium
that reminds me of the Carl Sagan quote:
“The universe is a pretty big place. If it’s just us, seems like an awful waste of space.” -
