Back around 1975, when I was working at a department store, I used to chat with a senior staff member who told me a story of her early career as a preschool teacher, probably around 1930. At the time, she was friends with one of the Group of Seven painters, I think it was A.Y. Jackson, who would come along and tell stories to the kids, illustrating them with quick paintings on a large paper pad on an easel.
I said: “Wow, those must be worth something!”
She said: “Back then, I didn’t think of that. I threw them all away.”
