The richest Americans own the vast majority of the US stock market, according to Fed data. The top 10% of Americans held 93% of all stocks, the highest level ever recorded. Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of Americans held just 1% of all stocks.
The company failed because it was unable to invest in long-term projects. Shareholders demanded constantly increasing profits and revenue every single quarter, and once all the employees have been laid off there wasn’t anything else to cut.
But think of it from the shareholder standpoint – they had multiple mansions and yachts to pay for. They didn’t have any other choice.
I’d say hibernation might be a problem, but Trump spent a third of his presidency on vacation, and much of the rest of it watching TV, so the bear may be overqualified.
