A lot of kids shouldn’t go on to college, even if they ARE bright! We’ve been brought up to regard a college degree as the holy grail…a lot of kids WANT nto be carpenters, plumbers, etc., and are successful. What’s wrong with trade schools, apprenticeship programs, vocational programs in high schools? Working with your hands seems to be considered degrading, but for you well-educated folks
who hold tradesmen/women in contempt, try building your own house, or fixing the plumbing, or wire your house so it doesn’t burn down. I have a degree also, and I really enjoy learning new things and can discuss scientific things and philosophy with anybody, but I also build a mean piece of furniture, can rope a steer, and skin a buck…education means more than book-larnin’
