Similar story when I sold my Chevette to a mechanic friends co- worker. I had replaced the timing belt and the crank shaft pulley on it, but the damage was done. Camshaft broke about 200 miles later. OHC 4 cylinder. Car sat in my garage for over a year. After talking with my friend, she said that 1000 bucks was fair. so I told the dude, after he seemed hesitant, to just swap out the head and he’d be driving it by Monday. So he did. drove it fo about 4 days, and it died. He called Julie, practically in tears ! She goes down the list with him. Did you check the carb, tighten all the bolts and parts he removed, check fuel pump, Yes ! Yes! Yes!!. Then she asked him, "Have you put gas in it since you bought it? " Silence. He had run it for 4 days on the little bit of gas that was in it. He put gas in it, gave it a shot of starter fluid. He had that car for four years.
