In about 1820, a man called William Swaim concocted a cure-all, modestly labelled “Panacea”, which was said to be especially effective against mercury poisoning. When analyzed by the newly-formed American Medical Association,it was discovered that its main ingredient was—-mercury!But that didn’t stop the true believers. Swaim’s Panacea was produced until at least 1920.Some things never change.
I’m 70, and, apart from my near-deafness, in good shape. I’m also a guide in a historic (est. 1836) cemetery. Whenever I walk through “my” cemetery. I am always aware of the fact that I have outlived about three-quarters of the “residents”. It puts things into perspective.
I know nothing about moles, but I can assure you, gophers/groudhogs make holes.I know this because I’m a cemetery guide. We guides are required to warn our visitors about the holes “about the size of a human foot” that the groundhogs make.
