“Absence in love is like water on fire. A little quickens, but much extinguishes it.” -Hannah More

Actually, that could be something. In the DCAU universe Ace rarely spoke. Tracey has the same hairdo as Ace. Put Tracey in a black & white leotard and we are all set!

My parents never did that to me as an adult. Could be that their parents could suddenly reply with “Indeed, and we remember those times when you are were little and you did…”

That became a well known lesson. A dog’s ears are not handles!

What’s that got to do with this comic strip?

Still have to laugh at some earlier strips.

    Dog Groomer: All done.

Elly: Doesn’t he look nice! My precious Farley. Nothing is too good for my Farley Warley!

Dog Grommer: That will be $200.

    Elly: For brushing a dog??

Elizabeth said nice things even when she did not get a penny of handouts from her grandmother. That is actually being part of a family.

A strip I remember, when Elizabeth was a toddler.

    Elizabeth: Nizzie pet doggy!

Elizabeth pats Farley on head repeatedly

    Elizabeth: Nizzie go for ride!

Elizabeth puts herself on Farley’s back like a deadweight

    Elizabeth: Nizzie pull ears!

    Elizabeth yanks Farley’s ears

    Elizabeth: Nizzie pull tail…

    Elizabeth is thwarted

    Farley: GROWL!

Elly: Farley….NO!!! Oh, Elizabeth, are you OK?

    Elly takes Elizabeth away

Michael: Hey, you want to talk to someone who understands?

There was a strip in the B.A. era (Before April) that addressed church, to the consternation of the Pattersons

Pattersons attend Easter service. Michael seems impressed with the pastor’s sermon about the death and resurrection of Christ. The Mass then ends. As everyone is leaving Michael asks a question in front of his parents

Michael: Is church open every Sunday?

    Elly: Yes, Michael.

Michael: Then how come we only go twice a year?

John and Elly have mortified looks on their faces in the last panel

Seems like a very hot day today. In the second and fourth panels John’s glasses have been steamed over.
