May not be their response area or they could be off shift. Typically, for a fainting of an elderly person an engine company would be sent along with the ambulance for additional manpower. In our city, all fire personnel are also EMTs with many being paramedics.
Yep, that’s why 911 should be called first. Sadly, a lot of security personnel at such places are those who lacked the aptitude to qualify as an officer. A lot of them wash out in the background checks, psych evals, and voice stress analysis tests.
You are correct. Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols advise to lay a person flat on their back and remove anything under their head. Also, to gently tilt the person’s head back to keep the airway clear. If the person vomits then to quickly turn them on their side and clean out their mouth and nose. I’ve given these instructions more times than I can remember. It’s also important to remember, life over limb.
As a 13-year 911 dispatcher, EMS should be called first to get them en route, then campus security can be contacted if needed. No need to use up potentially valuable time contacting them first when they can be contacted while EMS is on the way. Most dispatch centers will have gate codes or they may be programmed to be opened by the sound of the sirens. Many public buildings also have what is called a Knox Box that is accessible by fire and police departments that have codes and/or keys for access eliminating the need to breach a door.
It would be well worth your time to explore the older strips. You can watch as the family grows, especially Gene. A&J is at the top of my reading list for a reason.
Many years ago, my wife and I were in Philly meeting up with fans of Band of Brothers to meet and have dinner with Bill Guarnere. We stayed in a hotel just off Logan Square that had a restaurant in the building. There we met a beautiful young lady who made us feel very welcome. She added so much to our trip that when we were leaving, we went down to thank her for her hospitality. I told her she is one of the main reasons Philly will hold a special place in our hearts. She topped it off by giving us big hugs. I think of her often and it always brings a smile to my face. I hope she is still touching people the way she touched us.
