“The Republican party is not what it used to be.”

Without an accompanying context, “Republican” (capitalized) is a one-word oxymoron.

    “HE’D know.”

Of course, but if his punishment was “too” severe, others would get involved.

“With exceptions made for the Green Party, Peace & Freedom Party, Working Families Party, etc.”

Really? How much effort — or money, if that’s your “yardstick” — are the Democrats expending in preventing other parties from getting on the ballot?

And if more than zero, is it more than Republicans?

For that matter, far more significant than official party activities, how are the media dealing with additional parties, their candidates and their messages?

(Meanwhile, it’s difficult to separate Fox media from the Republican — or “Trump” — party.)

“FDR was corrupt and power hungry”

That’s not the impression I have from his history. More significantly — since I wasn’t old enough to vote for him, — it wasn’t the view of my parents, who were registered Republicans, but supported the many programs founded by his administration… Social Security, the TVA, and much more.

IMO, he made at least one serious “mistake” — assisted by other world leaders, — which was giving away Eastern Europe to Stalin. But although born into the elite, most of “his” programs were structured to reduce the gap between the richer and the poorer, not to widen it.

“So, you don’t see a fundamental difference between people and animals.”

    You said that, not I.

But I do see fundamental differences (not just one) between some people and other people, based on various aspects of their separate behaviors.

“Without the Electoral College, NYC, Chicago and LA would determine the outcome of all elections”

    Even if the police intervened?

Oh, right. The Electoral College only has a “campus” once every four years.

“Do you even know a Republican? Ever talk to one?”

You mean, beyond those who identify themselves as such here in the GoComics comments? Well, yes, and not just one. Even some of their counterparts in Europe when I travel there.

In fact, I was once myself a registered Republican… but that was back when many of today’s “Republicans” called themselves “Southern Democrats”. Context does matter.

“Well, oddly, the closest we ever got to that was a leftist FDR…….”

Roosevelt’s “power” came from public support, not from an attempt to dominate.

“So, be careful about your soap box there, you may find it not very supportive to stand on.”

I sometimes drink tea. I am not dependent on it. I’ve been known to go weeks without anything caffeinated, without feeling a craving.

As for my “soapbox”, I understand that there is a much clearer connection between “social drinking” and alcoholism. But both addictions — alcohol and caffeine — are very much promoted as “necessities” by the media… and not just through commercial advertising.

“As an early rocker, it’s really Beathoven.”

As a rocker, I was thinking Cher.
