   It would have been better if you had just not bought it in the first place. I’ve heard of people who buy clothes and then wear them for an event, just to return them afterwards. Gross.

   Even conversation fragments are to be treasured. My mom and I were different people in many ways, but we still tried to have a good relationship. She passed 2 years ago, after many years of struggling with dementia, and I miss her so much. She loved talking and I wish I could hear her voice again.

   It’s okay. I don’t think Cathy is giving accurate answers in the first two panels, so I doubt she’s telling the truth in the third. Regardless, if she only goes to the office, I’m sure she can meet someone there. And then there’s always Irving. :-|

   I feel like the first panel was common knowledge after the 80s. We used to be told we “can have it all.” Now I think women realize that it’s not so easy, and it takes a village. As for the second panel, I wish I was told that sooner. I tried to make relationships work for much too long.

   Many times people just want to be heard or are making conversation about what’s on their mind. You don’t always have to “solve” a problem or come to a conclusion. There are people like Anne who I won’t get into conversations with because it’s frustrating for us both.

   It’s not that impossible… I won’t go into the biology here, but people have babies every day. And if those models have a baby with them, most of the time they are not theirs. If you really want one, just go shopping at your local daycare (kidding… I am not advocating kidnapping :-))

    You don’t have to become either one. I’ve tried to recognize what my mom did and didn’t do well, and also the type of parent I wanted to be (which may or may not be what your friends are). And I’ve ended up being the person/parent that I am. Of course, I continue to change and evolve, and the person I was years ago is different than the person I am now. So, don’t agonize over any of that, Cathy. The only one who is in control of what sort of person you are and what sort of people you hang out with, is you.
