    Polls’ margin of error is rarely recognized by the innumerate. Polls can be important, as a snapshot of a given time and place.

    Panel 3 is correct. Presidents can make things worse sometimes but it takes actions like monster tax cuts for big campaign contributors or big spite tariffs to have much effect. It’s a huge, complex machine without a control panel.

    To a certain extent, I believe every poll is self-selecting. I know I screen calls regularly. I assume a substantial portion of the population does also. I really wonder how pollsters. get results that are anything close to accurate.
