I agree that Israel needs weapons. But what they don’t need and should be forbidden are weapons that are purely offensive. And I think it’s pusillanimous to say we cannot control how they use the weapons we GIVE them. They simply don’t NEED bombs… so why do they HAVE them? That the US provided? (answer: Because bomb makers have too much control over the way money for Israel is spent)

Easy to criticize. Did you see your children beheaded in your own home? Was your spouse kidnapped and murdered by Hamas?

Caption below photo in article: Abdullatif Abu Alia kneels over a pillow soaked with dried blood from where he said his cousin, 25-year-old Jehad Abu Alia, bled to death after being shot in the head after his property was besieged on April 12 by Israeli settlers in the village of Al Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank. (Lily Martin/CBC)

“…For years, even decades, human rights groups that monitor the occupied West Bank have implored Israel’s allies to take steps to punish Jewish settlers and members of Israel’s military who attack Palestinians and seem to carry out their actions with impunity.

And so when word came over the weekend that Israel’s closest ally, the United States, reportedly plans to hold members of an Israeli military battalion composed of ultra-orthodox and religious nationalist members accountable, they saw it as progress.

Earlier, the United States and Europe had placed economic and travel sanctions on a few key settlers believed to be responsible for instigating attacks, but implementing penalties and putting restrictions on a branch of the Israel Defence Forces is unprecedented.

Israel’s government was indignant and rejected the suggestion that the military unit should be singled out.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said imposing sanctions on the Netzah Yehuda battalion while the war against Hamas still rages and the unit is fighting in Gaza “casts a heavy shadow” on other IDF units.

And Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested the potential U.S. measure was “the peak of absurdity and a moral low,” as he vowed to fight it. …" — CBC .ca /news /world /west-back-violence-1.7180868

Israelis have hated Palestinians for decades. When we were there, Palestinians were treated like dogsh*t. We stayed in a hotel on the Mount of Olives (which was in Palestinian territory) and the Israeli cab drivers wouldn’t even take us there. We also saw some Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, and they were the height of squalor.

We blame Hamas, but without this Israeli treatment, the probably wouldn’t have happened. Probably not much difference than the Israeli settlers taking over Palestinian homes and killing the inhabitants.

This cycle of war crimes repeated after war crimes has been occurring for millenia. 1 Samuel 15:3 Thus says the LORD of hosts to Israel, "Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.” AND ON THE OTHER SIDE, "The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: “Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah!, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him! — But the tree Gharqad will not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.” This is a hadiths. and Quran 9:5 “But once the Sacred Months have passed, kill the polytheists ˹who violated their treaties˺ wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and lie in wait for them on every way.” Just because someone has twisted a religion into endorsing genocide, does not make it right, or proper. BOTH sides are guilt of war crimes and horrific abuses of people. Both sides.

The arms the U.S. provides Israel are for defensive purposes, as outlined in the Laws since 1948. Netanyahu misuses those arms, Biden has objected and threatened recourse. It is congress that must put it in Law that the weapons cannot be used offensively. The U.S. does not govern Israel, but we should govern the aid we give.

Israel has so many weapons they EXPORT AND SELL WEAPONS. From BBC, “Israel has also built up its own defence industry with US help and now ranks as the ninth-largest arms exporter in the world, with a focus on advanced technological products rather than large-scale hardware. It held a 2.3% share of global sales between 2019 and 2023, according to SIPRI, with India (37%), the Philippines (12%) and the US (8.7%) the three main recipients. The sales were worth $12.5bn (£9.9bn) in 2022, according to the Israeli defence ministry.Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) made up 25% of those exports, followed by missiles, rockets and air defence systems (19%) and radar and electronic warfare systems (13%), the ministry said.”
