When I was growing up in the 60s, it seemed like every 4th classmate was getting accordion lessons. Probably nowhere near that many, but I’ve often wondered what led to that surge of popularity.
One can gauge a sense of humour with ethnic jokes. Tell someone a funny ethnic joke. See if they laugh or not. This is like calibrating a lie detector. If they laugh, tell them a funny joke about their ethnic group. If they laugh, they have a sense of humour. If they don’t, they’re just mean.
When the Germans came to Mexico to work the mines, they brought their accordions with them. The Mexicans dug the sound and Tejano music was born! (I like accordions).
My Swiss uncle got me interested in playing the accordion as a teen. I took lessons for a couple of years, then just gave it up. Now decades later, during the pandemic, got a keyboard. The lessons learned many years ago are proving to be helpful today.
My German heritage pushed me to eventually take up the bassoon and contrabassoon. My Scottish heritage and Scottish wife pushed me to take up the bagpipes. Lots of reeds. My Haida-Tlingit heritage pushed me to emigrate to Vancouver Island and increase the salmon in my diet. All changes for the better.

I always wanted to learn to play the bagpipes correctly, but I looked into it and apparently no one has ever figured out how to do it correctly.

A person dies, and has to figure out where to go:
Welcome to heaven, here’s your harp.
Welcome to hell, here’s your accordion.

Also, if you’re willing to laugh at yourself, you’ll never lack for entertainment. You can save a lot on streaming charges that way.

Speaking as one of German heritage, who loves both accordion and harmonica when played well, may I say that Panel 3 is pure genius?

I won’t make fun of myself. Others already do it enough.
