It depends on what you mean:1) Two parent home: If you mean ANY two consenting adults raising a child in a healthy environment OR a single parent who’s identified the proper resources to raise their child and is caring for them responsibly, YES.2) Moral compass: Yours or mine? Morality isn’t universal. If you’re referring to Mike Johnson’s Christo-fascist morality, absolutely not.3) Self-respect: all humans regardless of race, sexual orientation, nationality, etc., should have self-respect and everyone else should simply respect that. You could improve on that, Goodwyn, as could I.4) Work ethic: every person deserves a job that pays a living wage and we need to get away from the concept that grinding out your existence working three jobs and having no time for your family or personal care is acceptable.5) Personal responsibility: the day I see Goodwyn take responsibility for the hate he spreads in his work will be the day I believe HE wants this.6) My patriotism says we don’t allow people who encouraged an insurrection against the properly elected government of the USA. Trump should be prosecuted fully and immediately as should everyone who supported the January 6 insurrection. All those convicted should be punished to the full extent of the law. PERIOD. That’s a a start at true patriotism.

If a republican could achieve any of those

It would be a miracle!

Many are hard to achieve once you have left the nest. But not impossible. So parents, it’s up to you. Can’t rely on the schools for these traits.

Nice ideals. However, as you know, some of your resolutions are open to interpretation. Patriotism, for instance. For some, that means following mindlessly their leader or party. For others, my idea of patriotism is trying to make us better, to listen to our better angels.

Well, at least Badwyn isn’t excluding same sex couples from parenting.

Yes. Let’s return to the good old days. That’s the goal of all good conservatives, like Hitler, for example. Read Mein Kampf for a greater understanding of the conservative mindset. If only Big Government would just get out of the way, capitalism could function once again. Conservative politics is a greater danger to humanity than dishwater liberals, who just want to “fix” dying capitalism. At least they (not the liberal politicians) are open to new ideas. BUILD THE UNIONS. WORKERS TO POWER!

Indeed, I would like to see some of that work ethic in our lazy do-nothing (e.g. no collaborative action for decades on immigration policy) Congress that can’t do their job and patriotically — putting our country above their party or themselves — cooperate respectfully/morally with the other Congress members and produce proactive cost-effective resilient legislation for ALL Americans (even single parents) not just their exclusive base.

A great thought, but the problem is what your moral compass is set on. A lot of people have their moral compass set on the wrong thing and try to convince people that their way is the only right way.

Two Parent Home, Moral Compass, Self Respect, Work Ethic, Personal Responsibility and Patriotism are six of many items that Democrats could not ever achieve.

Well said Mr. Goodwynn (1) Two Parent home is needed. (2) Work ethic : were you value your job. (3) Moral compass: for person right from wrong.(4) Personal Responsibility : This will be hard to achieve in today toxic society. (5) Self Respect : The Gen z crowd needs to learn this. (6) Patriotism : Is needed in this younger set of Gen Z crowd.

Who should I marry, Al? Do you have someone picked out? Will she drink too much? Will she beat my children? Will she bring home strange men? Will they give her a sexually transmitted disease she can share with me? Will she kick the dog? Will she shoot heroin in front of the children? Who cares, as long as there are two of us!

Pick three American values/ rights, e.g.: Life, Liberty, The Pursuit of Happiness. It will not take long for some pundit to voice his/her/their opinion on how some are not accorded these values/rights, and to self-righteously and condescendingly add opinions on why that is the case, why and how some are being victimized or shortchanged, and what the rest of us (the victimizers) should / must do to rectify the situation. Thus political parties arise early and often.

It’s certainly nothing but delusions when you see Trump as the moral compass and insurrections as patriotism. Was it self respect or personal responsibility that had them smearing feces on the walls of congress?

OK, what magic wand are you going to wave to give every child a two-parent home? What about single moms who were abandoned or widowed – you going to provide gainfully employed husbands for them? And just how many men out there are willing to raise somebody else’s children? Are you suggesting that women should stay in abusive relationships “for the sake of the kids”? For that matter, what about single dads?

Why aren’t we more successful at keeping our New Year’s resolutions? Some reasons include the idea that we’re thinking too big, we’re not considering the ‘why’ behind them, and the fact that we may not be ready for change.
