I want to know where Karen shops if the supermarket produce police are going to take your mom away for that.

Luann needs to learn a lot about shopping at the supermarket. If you don’t want all the grapes, just split the bunch, just like with bananas.

I pointed out to a produce worker a woman sipping fresh squeezed orange juice from different bottles so she could taste which one she wanted. That worker turned PURPLE.

Difference is, Nancy intends on paying for the bananas, Luann…

Too ripe. A couple of them are dangerously close to matching that shirt. These poor kids never get cute outfits…

IMO, bananas taste best when the peel is spotted.

Then, they’re neither underripe nor overripe.

The grocery story closest to where I live charges you extra if you break apart a bunch of bananas.

Our grocery store always has a lot of “orphans”. I take two that are green, two that are half-ripe, and two that are ready to eat. That way, they don’t all go bad at once.

It is not wrong to break up a bunch of bulk fruit (such as bananas or grapes). Sampling food, such as grapes or bulk food, is considered generally theft in most grocery stores. Nancy is surprised Luann is taking a grape as it is not something she would have done herself. Being a comic strip, it is funny as Luann is worried about her mother getting caught and then a moment later, she is doing something that could get her in trouble. Sunday comics are longer and Greg tells a thought -provoking story. Nancy’s neck position is not possible though!

This is one of the main reasons I will never eat or buy fruit.

Watched a kid take a bite out of all the apple types on display while the mother ignored him. Pointed it out to the Produce worker who did nothing. I bagged the apples after she moved on. I followed her as I did my shopping and when we got to the checkouts, handed her the bag and said, “here, you forgot to collect these after your son took a bite out of them and put them back on the display piles.” With others standing close by, she couldn’t deign and refuse them. Her faced turned beet red, snatched the bag out of my hand and put them on the belt. Heard the kid screaming bloody murder when they got out off the store.

If I’m in a foul mood, I separate all the bananas.

Unwashed grocery store grapes are gross.

The exact same scenario happened during a work trip. My colleague pulled apart a bunch of bananas to get the three he wanted and my response was “CAN YOU DO THAT?”

Imagine: I spent 40+ Years on this planet and learned something new.

“There are 57 grapes on here, I only wanted 55…”

I was in a store once that had a display of olives in bins next for their salad bar. A lady came by and stuck her hand into the bin and stood there eating the olives. There are some really self centered and clueless people out there.

Luann, your mother wasn’t EATING the bananas. She was just breaking them apart.

Once I saw a small bowl in the cherry section. Solved the problem of what to do with the pits.

Her head is just a little past 90°. Should be easy for her; I’ve always known that Nancy is exceptionally limber. Oh yeah…. really limber.

Of course you can separate the bananas to take what you want.

Oh what abunch of sad sacks. So she ate a couple of grapes. All Nancy has to do is put them inb the cart. All this, ‘what about the weight of the 2-3 she ate’ nonsense is not gonna change the base price per pound. And make her pay. Simple. But no we NEED to bitch about everything.

Well, there’s unauthorized bunch separation, and then there’s outright larceny.

I saw a lady do this just last week. She took grapes (in plastic but the top is open), put them in her cart, popped one in her mouth, then did a 180, put the grapes back on the shelf.

Additionally, I buy one banana every week. Sometimes I have to separate them to get just one.

My German grandmother tasted grapes before buying them. She said, “How else would I know if I want to buy them?”

Breaking the bunch and eating the fruit are not the same thing.

Separating banana’s, no big deal. Eating grapes, same as shoplifting…

Whaaaat? There is nothing wrong with separating a bunch of bananas! I do it all the time! I can’t use more than 3 in a week and I don’t want to make banana bread every week. Other people do it too. Someone else will buy the other ones. Whereas Luann is actually EATING grapes that she hasn’t paid for!

I too hate it when people eat the grapes right in the store as if it is their right. Buying fresh produce is always a gamble. you find out the taste after you get home.

Yuck! I would never eat grapes like that. Stealing aside, who knows how many people have touched them? Whenever I buy fresh fruit I take it home and wash and clean it well before consuming it.

That was my MIL, bless her. She used to eat a bunch of grapes while shopping, then either pay for what was left, or put the half eaten bunch back.

Don Johnson got caught doing that on the sitcom “Kenan”. The good news is the store employee and he ended up in a relationship. the bad news is she was married.

In today’s Real World, Luann, most grocery stores have posted “no sampling” signs in the produce area. They do not have “no splitting the bunches of bananas” posts.

So, guess who may be the one behind bars? Ha!

I think the "Greg"s at 5 for 29 is a bargain! :-/

Heard a story from a clerk in a grocery:

Apparently a woman was browsing her way through the “Produce” section – a grape here, a mushroom there, a cherry in the next aisle – and then she mistook a habanero pepper for a cherry tomato…

Sure, you can tear apart bunches – a few weeks ago, I only needed one banana.

I wouldn’t EAT grapes in the store, but I always break off bananas and clusters of grapes. No reason to buy new pay for more than you want.

I always taste a grape before I buy. I have gotten sour ones before.
