I knew a couple that said they compromise on everything but I saw two separate times where the wife “gave in” in exchange for winning the next time when I do in both cases that wanted what the husband said originally. He never figured out why she always had him say what he wanted first. She was clearly the boss in an “equal relationship”

It’s funny us kids know when mom makes a ruling it is law, but if we even joke about mom being the boss dad gets touchy.

I subscribe to the idea of marriage by The Book. (The Bible) My way of thinking about it was that there can only be one captain on a ship. I considered myself the first mate. My husband always sought my opinion on an issue and more often than not, we were in agreement. However, should there be a difference of opinion, I let my husband make the final decision. We lived happily that way for 24 years until his death 3 years ago. Manipulation has no place in a healthy marriage.
