    Lots of women had to “take in laundry” during the Great Depression in order to feed their families. Skippy’s family was apparently one of the fortunate ones. He would have been considered “upper class” by many of the other kids. Apparently there were also class levels (and snobbery) within the various “lower” classes. Some things never change.

    It’s the 1930s—The left viewed social ills through the lens of class conflict. Today their lens is race hatred.
