Didn’t used to matter, but years ago they enlrged the tube so they could sell less paper without shrinking the roll & making it obvious. Since then, pulling on over-the-top lifts the roll against ther wall, causing premature seperation – often only one sheet (I’m all for economy, but that is untenable).Off-the-bottom pulls the roll away from the wall, allowing proper length selection.Under is the only logical way.

@Peter – That problem is dependent on the type of roll holder you have, and if you know how to pull the paper. (It’s only a problem if you persist in pulling the paper nearly straight up.)

Of all the trivial troubles in the world, people who put the paper under is the most annoying methinks.

Many years ago, this issue took more than a week in the Ann Landers column. It was not really solved.

if you have a cat or a small child, i’m told under is the only way to go, but for me, over makes it easier to find the end.

I have a friend who had three daughters. His wife and daughters liked under, he preferred over. One time he complained to his wife about it being under, she told him, sincerely, “I’m so sorry honey, but that’s how it came from the factory”. Yep, blonde.

I’m waiting to hear how Obama likes his toilet paper so I can then decide which side of this over/under issue I will take my stand.

Ridiculous. Everyone knows over is the only correct way.
