Beaches were never free, since there are parking fees,
food concessions, rentals of all sorts, along with rides,
& other attractions that drain wallets almost as fast as
paying taxes, gas, food, rent, etc.
Going to “the beach” was free when I was a kid, but that’s because we had a farm beside a river that had some nice sandbars that we would call the beach.

check out nature in all its glory. you can find beauty almost anywhere, provided you are willing to look. the picture i’m using for my avatar was a view at the side of the road i was driving that cost me nothing to look at and enjoy.
(i did have to pay for the camera, film and developing to get me the picture to help preserve and share the memory, but that’s a separate thing from enjoying the view.)
There are several decent beaches … or were decent … in Ontario. Most with in an hour of my old hometown … then they started charging for parking, and putting in concessions etc …
