Reminds me somehow of my very first summer job some decades ago in a travel agency. They still had a telex to communicate with Africa and South America (telephone lines were awful). I only knew what it was because I was a fan of the B&W films of the 30’s with all those reporters reading the long strips of paper coming out of the machine.
Reminds me of the cartoon of two ladies each playing solitaire in an office. One of them answers the phone and says, “The Internet’s been down all day and we’re having to do everything by hand.”

Typical Rita messages, it really doesn’t matter that no one else knows what the drums are saying.

Wasn’t the tapping noise what preceded the Orcs in LOTR?
