Good question. Too subtle or obscure or something for me.

References to things people didn’t know used to make them curious and want to find out about new things. And rarely is the movie as good as the book(s). Now the abbreviated version of thinking is far too popular.

I did not like this. By a long shot, too much “inside baseball.” What the hell does “NSA” mean? Disappointed that the cartoonist would appeal only to a minority (and I know that LOR aficionados think that everyone is aware of their world, but that’s not the case). FAIL.

To paraphrase: a cartoonist can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but not one can please all of the people all of the time. (With thanks to poet John Lidgate via A. Lincoln.)

If you don’t possess either the interest or the talent to draw comics, you really don’t have room to complain. And if you can’t aren’t under pressure to produce something reasonably useful 365 times each year, you don’t know how much effort goes into each strip.

I have enjoyed the comics in papers, magazines, and books for over 80 years, and my admiration for their talents and their endurance has never wavered. While I don’t necessary appreciate every strip, I really look forward to them with great anticipation. I call comic strips the very essence of serendipity, because you never know what you will find but you will almost always find pleasure in the looking.

Please keep going, Friends, and thank you.

@CANDOMARTY – NSA is the US National Security Agency, the communications counterpart to the better known CIA. One of those things that does not work for everybody.

If it had been put on top of a pyramid some would still not get it. As it is it covers a lot of ground, though I kind of doubt there would be an NSA sign out front.

To travesty a swedish joke about our sigint agency: “NSA, the only agency that listens to you” (I figure the joke is obvious, but in case it’s not as clear to you non-swedes as I believe, a common complaint among people is that the government don’t listen to the people)
