BRC, this is just plain wrong. You are in an echo chamber where facts don’t matter. Your attitude is exceedingly dangerous. Journalists all have foibles, but the mainstream press is one of the bastions of civilization in the US. The founders understood that. Intelligent, aware people everywhere know it to be true. The propagandists, in part led by Russians and anarchists like Bannon, are destroying our beloved freedoms. The press in our country is motivated by profit, which skews coverage to the lower common denominator. But outlets like NPR, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times and others, try to do their best to cover the news objectively. They don’t always succeed, but they try. Your view is dangerous, but you may be too ignorant to see that. The first amendment is there for a very good reason.
The problem is not the news. It is the lies. A bad poll is much different than a blatant lie. If you throw out all the media, the government gets to do what they want with no oversight. If the media is allowed to put out alternative facts, we don’t know what to believe. If the government gets more powerful because of this, why would they create laws to fix it?
