I never understand why he wants to throw his shoes.

If they have this conversation every year, why is mom so surprised? Indeed why does she even need to ask?

How is an annual event a crime of passion? I put forward that this was a cold blooded and plotted action that was months in the planning. When will the shoes come off? Where shall they be disposed? Where will they never be found by anyone who should be looking for them…ie MOM.(Mom have Wallace do chores all summer for new shoes. It might slightly cut down on the mischief he gets into and teach him the consequences of early disposal of clothing)

Let it go, Mom. His shoes would be too small by the end of summer anyway.

That’s OK Wallace, the replacement price of the shoes will be subtracted from you birthday gift. And then really do what you say. Promise you, Wallace will never pull that stunt again.
