And the problem is an unregulated private energy system.

Let Texas Be Texas! Hook ‘em Horns!

“Texans would be without electricity for longer than three days to keep the federal government out of their business” —- Rick Perry

So stop sending our tax dollars to a backward bigoted “run the campaign bus off the highway” red state that cannot govern itself.

Winter Storm Energy Prices in Texas Leave Customers With Astronomical Bills That Can Reach Up to $17,000 – https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/20/us/texas-storm-electric-bills.html

Ty Williams, a Griddy customer from Arlington, told a local Fox affiliate that he and his family were lucky because they never lost power during the storm. Apparently, that luck did not come cheap: Griddy charged him $17,000 for five days of use.

“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”

—“So, now that we’ve got your attention, let’s talk about privatizing the water.”

    - Not to worry though, Abbott and the repugs are already begging for that dirty socialist federal money and finding ways to blame dems. So, in the end, Americans all throughout the country may wind up footing the bill for Texas’ dysfunctional repug policies. Just like we bailed them out for their financial and housing markets Koch-ups.

My electric bill from a regulated power co was $81.56, and I thought that was high.

I get the historical reference, but in this case, I think it should be “Austin, we have a problem.”
