Oldlegodad, it may distress you to learn that Bush/Cheney and their minions did not regard Al Qaida as a threat, but rather as an opportunity to impose their «vision» on both the United States and the rest of the world. Didn’t work out too terribly well - indeed, seems to have had the contrary effect of hastening the decline and fall of the US Empire - but so can it go when one allows a «faith-based» view to determine policy….
