Kimberly has a tendency to be provincial in outlook in matters beyond the US borders. I am also not not very comfortable with her constant ad hominem attacks in just about every one of her posts, even if I may, on occasion, be on-side with her opinions on other matters. It is counter-productive. Agreed, there are better links to prove my point. and I think UNIDO may have others that could show it. I know you appreciate black & white facts but alas, it had to do for now. I had amended my initial post from “was/is” to just “is in decline” as the report was too small in its scope. I succumbed to the generalised feeling (there, I did it, too) that we, the US & the EU, have lost market share in most manufacturing sectors, most especially low-tech industries like textiles. Germany remains one of the top manufacturers despite its relative small population in relation to the US & China because of its leading position in high-tech goods; likewise the US. Interesting point you bring up about China. I wonder about these definitions of what constitutes a developing nation etc. I remember South Africa, back in the late ‘80s, being considered the only developed nation in Africa by the OECD. This changed soon after 1994 when the realities of the general population was made more public and studied. Likewise in China, it still has a very large population that is mired in abject poverty. I could research the definition, but it’s 5:30am. My alarm clock has woken me up an hour early. The one one clock that really matters in setting back, I forgot. I shall just drink my early morn coffee and read some news. Don’t forget to change back your clocks next weekend.
