Actually, New York state has, I believe, some rather strict gun laws, but apparently enforcement is not quite what it should be. To bad America is becoming known for this sort of thing — not that Republicans or the NRA would care.
Re the good guy with the gun: a 70-year-old in Washington State thought a younger man was stealing from a large grocery store. He blocked the entrance with his cart and then pulled out his gun when the younger tried to push him out of the way. The 70-year-old fired twice, hitting the younger guy in the neck (non-life-threatening), and took out the door to the store with the other. The younger guy had already paid for his groceries. He was NOT stealing. And people with guns who do not target-practice every week are a menace to themselves and others.
Tell me again how the easy non-uniform access, from state to state, to lethal semi-automatic weapons makes America better, safer, more trusting, and more unified for us and our children.
OK, enough of this $hit. I get it 2nd amendment, but someone has to accept that the current situation is not acceptable. Some people should not have guns due to mental issues or past behavior (convicted felons, etc.). I’m tired of “Thoughts and Prayers,” as they are not cutting it.
Here is a hint, St Theresa of Avila said, “God has no hands but my hands.” God is not going to stop this carnage, we are his hands and therefore we need to take action.
I don’t think the framers of our Constitution thought that slaves should have guns, so lets have a conversation and not let 2nd Amendment cries prevent it. For the Constitutional structuralists out there, some folks were denied gun ownership by the original framers of the Constitution (and the Bill of Rights). Let’s have a discussion about who should be excluded from gun ownership today and determine ways that will effectively make that happen. There has to be a middle ground, let’s start the discussion to find it.
Dumb as a box of rocks…..the more laws are over turned, the more violence will ensue, but they can’t see the forest for the tress….This reminds me of living in the WILD WILD WEST…..GOP want to hurl AMERICA back to the good ole days……to suit their needs….
I live in a nice neighborhood. We are in the county and there are no restrictions or HOAs to deal with. My neighbor has a legit business selling guns and ammo. I am amazed at how much traffic he has. The demand must be high.
Comparing gun violence in American states with strong gun laws with western countries shows that the fabric of society has more to do with lack of gun violence than laws or the enforcement of them. Here the first step would be to repeal the federal ‘Dickey Amendment’ that all but bans the funding of research on gun violence. When the full scope is seen, action might happen. It worked when MADD focused on drunk/impaired driving.
We’ve reached a point where gun laws will make little to no difference. No one really knows how many firearms are in the 50 United States. Smuggling will keep Sig Sauer, Glock, Smith&Wesson et al in business and guarantee anyone’s 2nd Amendment right to arm his own militia (himself). It is now a Societal problem, and is a long, long bloody way towards reformation.

Make more laws for illegal guns. Legal guns are not the problem.

dumbass Americans will rather see their children shot than pass sensible gun laws. Who can understand their perverse love of guns?

He wasn’t on the no-sell list because he wasn’t found to be a threat a year earlier. That appears to have been a mistake.
