The original German caption for this cartoon is ”Obama kann auch anders”
Which I translate as “Obama can also be different”. Doesn’t sound quite right…”Obama can also act differently” ?
Obama can also get angry?
bleeep, cannot ask my wife for a decent translation, it’s late. :p
Hmm, thanks, beats waiting for the wife in the ‘morrow!
Since it’s regarding his anger about the continued lack of communication between the national security agencies, and a take on his “yes, we can” campaign slogan, it’s Obama showing a more aggressive side to his known patient demenour? Therefore, “…can do differently”?
Oh, I dunno.
OmQ R, if I may intervene, I suggest the reference is to Martin Luther : «Hier stehe ich; ich kann nicht anders». I think what is meant here is that «Obama can do better», but the desire to make the historical reference forced the choice of the adverb «anders», which is perhaps here best translated as «otherwise»….
Aha, thanks for that Henri. Also Martin Luther banging on the door, Obama banging on the table.
I just finally asked my wife and she agrees with your interpretation.
