It's not just how to get them in but how to get them out... Afghanistan Additional Troops
if the humane and brilliant bush/cheney/rice triplets had planned (and garnered un sanction) and armed our soldiers with better gear and vehicles with better armor, and if they had been honest in the first place and attacked the right target, we would be clean and out
Clinton said he would not authorize dropping a bomb on Ben Laden because there may be a Saudi Arabian there. Hell, they are all Saudi Arabians. So the fuel air bomb sounds like a good plan to me.
All is fair in love and war .
If we’d gone after ONLY the camps and bin Laden, it would have been brief. The Taliban turned down the oil pipeline project, so had to go.
Clinton DID authorize bombing the camps, and any Saudi expats in the camps, but the missiles missed the targets. Those “precision guided” missiles even landed in the wrong country. The same thing happened in the second Iraq fiasco, as when reporters comfortably ensconced OUTSIDE Iraq ducked an incoming “scud” that was actually an errant cruise missile.
Doc Canuck - if they’re there they aren’t innocent. They’re there supporting the mission and providing aid and comfort to our enemy. My family was in similar position when we were stationed in Wurzburg, Germany. We always understood that they were targets, just as those of us in uniform were. It was a chance we took. If they’re on a valid military target it’s the chance they take and the choice they make. Send ‘em to Allah.
Under the Cheney/Rumsfeld plan, if it moved= military target, standing building=military target, school= military target, wedding=military target, etc.
We tried that in ‘Nam, and well, the results are there.
Smarter is to NOT blow them up before you ask questions, but we’ve already gone there. NOW the much harder job is to convince them we will STOP blowing up their children, and only go after the very small number of “bad guys” we were after in the first place.
Of course, they’ve already seen thousands of times that we consider everyone a “bad guy”, so if in their shoes, would YOU believe us?
A very tough sell indeed.
