Brian, Brian, Brian! Please don’t go giving our current office holder any more ideas. I know that he wont read this, but he does still have a staff member or two that might…
I do agree with Mr. Trump on the fact that we are in a National Emergency. However what he fails to realize is that he is the National Emergency that we need to be protected from. I whole-heartedly endorse government funds be allocated to building a wall around Mar-A-Lago and that its inhabitants be declared Enemies of the State and restricted from travelling beyond it’s borders.
Are we really sure that an intolerant, mutually-exclusive, uncompromising, mostly-millionaire, much older than the median age of the population, corporate-friendly, 2 opposing party system is the best way to govern?
I wonder if fat-ass has figured out that if he declares a “National Emergency” to get his useless wall, AND as a smokescreen to encourage his goober followers to forget that Mueller is STILL ON THE JOB, that this will DESTROY the Republican Party as a viable Political power for GENERATIONS, if not FOREVER?
Naw, he NEVER worries about the consequences of his insanity, he only wants what HE wants whenever HE wants it…
@radish I feel that he will definitely declare a national emergency for national security purposes and attempt to use the military to implement his “security measures”. He’s kind of “walled” himself in.
The border needs screeners, agents and facilities, not 5-10 years of legal battles to grab private land or wall contractors profiteering. I already know half-a-dozen ways to get past or around a border wall, and I don’t even have the need.
Conservative pundit David Brooks: “There are now over a dozen investigations into Trump’s various scandals. If we lived in a healthy society, the ensuing indictments would be handled in a serious way — somber congressional hearings, dispassionate court proceedings. Everybody would step back and be sobered by the fact that our very system of law is at stake. But we don’t live in a healthy society and we don’t have a healthy president.Trump doesn’t recognize, understand or respect institutional authority. He only understands personal power. He sees every conflict as a personal conflict in which he destroys or gets destroyed. When the indictments come down, Trump won’t play by the rules. He’ll seek to delegitimize those rules. He’ll seek to delegitimize our legal institutions. He’ll personalize every indictment, slander every prosecutor. He’ll seek to destroy the edifice of law in order to save himself. We know the language he’ll use. It will be the anti-establishment, anti-institutional language that has been coursing through the left and right for the past few decades: The establishment is corrupt, the game is rigged, the elites are out to get you.At that point congressional leaders will face the defining choice of their careers: Where does their ultimate loyalty lie, to the Constitution or to their party?”
except I don’t think the current “emergency” is about Congressional deadlock, it is simply Drumpf manufacturing a crisis and having a tantrum about not receiving funding for his wall. Pretty sure neither the House (even when Republican) or the Senate (still Republican) wants to fund it.
By the way, about David Brooks’ (correct) prediction that part of Trump’s “defense” will be that “the elites are out to get you”: How the HELL can people not notice that somebody who was born rich, and whose father gave him $400 million (not the “paltry” one million Trump lies about), is PART of “the elite”????!!!!!
There have been questions about why no compromises have been offered yet we do know of a couple, one that was adopted. The Democrats offered to fund the rest of the budget while talks about border security continued— not a successful compromise. Trump has already won a HUGE compromise by including border wall funding in the US budget— that was a compromise to his pledge to have Mexico pay for the border wall. He negotiated it with Mexico quite a while ago. Only Trump is successfully compromising!
Brian, I’m pretty sure there are already suits ready to be filed by the same or following day that Trump may declare a national emergency, so there won’t be a bigly amount of time.
.
Second, when has Trump ever had a plan ready to execute something? He still has not even figured out the difference between a wall, a fence, and a metaphor. He desperately wants one of them to be funded because he promised Rush and Ann.
.
Of course, we must remember that he is the best negotiator in human history and a great judge of character.
The evidence is clear and undisputable: we have a national security emergency along the border of the White House lawn and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Congress should immediately appropriate funds sufficient to construct a fifty-foot high steel wall enclosing the entire city block, and then have ICE begin deportation proceedings against the illegal idiot-alien murderer-rapist taking sanctuary inside, or deliver him to the Saudi embassy for disposal — whichever is cheaper.
[ And did Harry Truman really just say whatever?! Next he’ll be telling Taft to chill.]
I’m sorry, I try never to outright insult anyone, but I’ve just got to say it….Our President is an idiot! Now he’s trying to convince the country that are in the middle of a National Emergency! Republican Senators, he is destroying your party, will you let him?

Imagine if Obama had talked about using emergency powers for any reason ! Conservative hordes would have stormed the white house and lynched Obama.

Today’s Darrin Bell cartoon suggests that 45 claims that the shutdown is actually a strike by federal employees.
Aside from this being plausible, I have seen no headlines indicating that it is actually true.
A sign of the times, I suppose, that we can no longer exaggerate because reality is now far more unbelievable than our imaginations!
