Did I say “foot”? Look which direction that barrel has been turned to: I meant the NRA has already shot itself in the FACE.
The NRA was once a respected organization representing the interests of sportsmen and gun safety respected by everyone, regardless of political party or other affiliation.
But in the last few years, the NRA has morphed into something far darker and more sinister.
While many members have canceled their memberships because of the dark turn of the organization, inertia is a powerful force, and many remain in the organization just because they remember better days.
Today, sadly, the NRA has devolved into the lobbying arm of gun manufacturers, and opposes even the most minimal gun safety oversight, contrary to its earlier views. As recently as 20 years ago, even Wayne LaPierre supported universal background checks that Wayne LaPierre DEMANDED in his congressional testimony on May 28, 1999, back when he at least had some degree of tenuous connection to reality.

Today, the NRA opposes even proposals to add suspected terrorists on the “no fly” list or convicted violent abusers or severely mentally ill to the list for background checks, and opposes background checks for those who buy guns from private parties over the Internet or at gun shows.
The Wayne LaPierre of today would find the Wayne LaPierre of 1999 to be a gun-snatching commie.
Did I say commie? Well, speaking of Russians, it was Wayne LaPierre’s NRA of today that laundered THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS of illegal foreign political contributions from a hostile foreign adversary (Russia) to the Donald Trump campaign.
As I said, the NRA is no longer the respected organization it once was, even if many of its members still hold to its earlier values.
The NRA has already shot itself in the foot.
