No quid pro quo. It is time for checks and balances. It is important for PROgressives to follow all appropriate protocols. Jump the gun, get to eager, and you lose everything.
There should be no call for impeachment until the reports are completed and full investigations are concluded. Democrats now have a majority in the House. Democrats do NOT have a majority, much less the 2/3 supermajority, needed to convict impeachment charges in the Senate.
If Democrats make a hasty rush to judgement, as RepubliCONs did under Newt Gingrich in 1998, they will strengthen rather than weaken the sitting occupant of the White House.
But if Democrats follow the successful example of their predecessors in 1973-74, they can impeach, convict and remove the unelected fake “president” who is usurping and besmirching the White House.
In 1974, Democrats had majorities in the House and Senate, but not the 2/3 supermajority in the Senate needed to convict and remove.
But because they waited for evidence, went through hearings, compiled the facts — once it became overwhelmingly evident of Nixon’s guilt, even the Senate Republicans could not ignore the facts known to the public, especially in a midterm election year (when they still lost record numbers), and a committee of Senate Republicans, led by Barry Goldwater of Arizona, went to the White House to inform Nixon that enough Republicans would cross over and vote to convict. Nixon would be removed from office, so it would be less humiliating to resign.
1974 was a midterm year. 2020 will be a presidential election. Opposite of 2018, it will be REPUBLICANS who are defending the most seats next time around and, if there is overwhelming evidence of Trumpian guilt, as I predict there will be, and on the heels of the 2018 blue wave (ten million more Democratic votes for Senate and six million more votes for House), Senators will NOT sacrifice their own re-elections to stand with a criminal in the White House.
