Simple rule of thumb: If your ancestors subjugated, murdered, slaughtered and humiliated an indigenous culture do not further humiliate them by making them a sports mascot. Particularly if the people still suffer a high level of poverty and discrimination.
Do you have a point here? Are you claiming that it makes sense to have an embarrassing cartoon of an entire people or culture as a sports logo because at one point they killed people?
What is your point? The people who settled this continent were supposedly more advanced, more civilized, more “Christian” than those “savages” they slaughtered. Here’s a poem I recently read by one of those “savages” at the Heard Museum in Phoenix:
As children we grew up knowing our neighbors not as people living next door to us, but as relatives…..A home is both the space inside and outside the building….It is the aroma, the textures of the building that help us remember…..
These were among our fellow human beings that were dehumanized, murdered, whose children were stolen and sent to “white man’s schools” to be civilized. Who were the savages and when will the dehumanization of these people stop?
If it weren’t for Political Correctness we could have “injun” red man mascots and call them what ever names we wanted. We could have them do a “rain dance” coming out of his “teepee” and we could all point and laugh at him. Maybe we could get a white guy to do it in “red face” paint and war paint and dance around whooping and being a savage.Do you think this is what the Donald is talking about when he talks about “making America great again?” I think this is exactly what he misses about the U.S. White men sitting around laughing at minorities.
