Seems that way, but it ain’t just Sam making those recommendations. Food industry puts more than a few out themselves, making them seem “official”.

Be damned if I’ve seen many changes, apart from the fuss with eggs, lard and cholesterol.

I’ve pointed this out before, but George Carlin had it right 40 years ago. “Scientists announced today that saliva is hazardous to your health. ………………………….. But only when taken in small doses over long periods of time.”

The dietary guidelines are a joke. I have been around a long time and over time just about every recommendation of what is good for you or bad for you has flip flopped, often more than once. Then you pile on all the news reports that result from studies on five mice and the average person is better off just eating what ever you want. Keep the calories down and get some exercise. As the ancient Greeks observed “Everything in moderation”.

Dietary guidelines are ideally based on the most recent science, and we should expect them to change from time to time when the evidence changes. What doesn’t change to adapt to the best available evidence is conservative thought, one of many examples of which is the one referenced in the cartoon, where industry money over-rode changes in dietary guidelines. Even distilled water can kill you, and may give rats cancer.

Yup my comment on ConserveGov’s comment was a cheap shot, but I sometimes find his comments so partisan that they are not worth agruing agianst.

I’m just surpised (and graetflu) that Muphry’s Law didn’t get me when I did it!:-)
