Tom Toles for December 12, 2004
Dec, 2004. On a remote Pacific Island, the last Japanese doldier fighting World War II runs out of ammo. He surrenders to the last American G.I., who had kept him pinned down for all these years. The Japanese soldier, returning to Tokyo, was surprised by how much it had changed. The American soldier, returning to his base, was surprised to have his tour of duty extended in Iraq for thirteen years. Character: At least now I'll get all the equipment I need.
