Shoot!! I got here before the trolls. I needed their wisdom to combat the context of this comic.

@LizardPriest Are there racist cops? Yes. I’m actually in favor of cops wearing cameras, both to protect the innocent or to prosecute the guilty. But this narrative that white people with guns are just looking for ANY excuse to gun down a black kid for NO reason is poison. It is slander. And the author of this vile cartoon is adding to that. @bgerard: Yes, because “racist” means “following the actual physical evidence.” Got it. Thanks for reinforcing what I just said. Appreciate it.

I thought the cartoon was right on the money. I have a black friend who is 55, a cancer researcher, married with children , and STILL followed around in jewelry stores.

You want to see how trigger happy people are at times with blacks?

Ask Tamir Rice… well, consider him because he’s dead. The twelve year old that Cleveland cops pulled up to and immediately shot. Note that not only is Ohio an open carry state, but the police already knew that the gun was probably fake.

“Obviously this comic strip is trying to present a narrative which establishes that Michael Brown and people like him are just innocent victims of trigger-happy racists.”

Or, perhaps, that the rules for black men are often very different than the rules for white men? It seems entirely possible that Michael Brown is not the best case to hold up to demonstrate this idea, but there are unfortunately plenty of other cases.

I’m quite comfortable accepting this cartoon as an example of ‘how leftists think’; I really hope your reply isn’t a good example of how rightists think – generalizing from a single case that there is no greater problem.

I wouldn’t count on it. It’s very hard to indict a cop. Most of the population seem to worship the police.

The point is that it’s not privilege if you know you have it.

@hogenmogen:Thanks for speaking up. I agree with you. I’m a white guy age 33 and the cops have stopped me several times while walking down the street, claiming I look suspicious. Got a $250 traffic ticket for something I was innocent of. Of course, the judge took the cop’s word for it even though my account made more sense. I wish these people would quit playing the race card because it detracts from the fact that this problem of police bullying is not a race thing! Police routinely harass white people too. There are plenty of good cops but the bad ones ruin it. Something has to be done about it.
